Marriage
The Sacrament of Matrimony
Marriage is a wonderful gift in which we commitment ourselves to family life. The sacrament of matrimony celebrates intimacy, fidelity, and a loving foundation for new life. As marriage is a most serious financial, psychological, and spiritual undertaking, St. Bridget Church requires couples to participate in a program prior to the ceremony.
The program includes marriage mentoring and a couples’ retreat in which couples explore the responsibilities they are about to assume, their expectations of married life, their readiness to raise children, and their skills and gifts they bring to the marriage. The program requires couples to think about the role of God in their lives and how their faith will guide and inform their marriage and childrearing.
Those couples seeking to be married in the Church should be registered and active members of the parish or should have permission of their pastor to marry in a church other than their usual parish church.
Weddings may be celebrated within Mass or outside of Mass and are usually held on Friday afternoon or evening, Saturday afternoon before the regularly scheduled Mass of anticipation, or Sunday afternoon, after the parish Mass.
Couples who are contemplating marriage are encouraged to call the Parish Office (612-529-7779) no less than nine months from the proposed date of the marriage.
