Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation

Confirmation renews our baptismal vows. It recalls Pentecost, when the disciples received the gift of the Holy Spirit and then went forth to heal, evangelize, and do good works that all nations might embrace God and salvation (Act 2:4). It is administered at a time in our lives when we understand the differences between serving God and serving man. It affirms our desire to put God first in our lives.

To help individuals understand the renewal of their baptismal vows, St. Bridget church offers Confirmation classes to prepare individuals for the sacrament.  Confirmation is a sacrament we receive once.

The sacrament is normally celebrated with young people who are beginning high school.  They are required to attend Confirmation classes through the Faith Formation Program.  Interested parties are invited to call the parish office (612-529-7779) for more information.

The current practice of the Archdiocese is to bring young people to the Basilica of St. Mary or the Cathedral of St. Paul, where

they are confirmed by the Archbishop or one of the Auxiliary Bishops along with other young people from throughout the Archdiocese.

Adults who have been baptized but not confirmed are asked to participate in the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA).

This process usually begins in the autumn and culminates at the Great Vigil of Easter, where they are confirmed by the Pastor.
