The Sacrament of Confession, Penance, and Reconciliation
Forgiveness is central to the Church’s understanding of salvation and righteous living. Jesus directed people to wait until they reconciled with those who had something against them before making offerings at the altar (Matt. 5: 23–24). In Confession we admit our transgressions against others, and, through acts of contrition we reconcile ourselves to others. Jesus granted his disciples the authority to forgive sins, which has been passed down to priests (Jn. 20: 21–23). As our good will and love of others often falters, the sacrament of Confession and Reconciliation may be received many times.
Young people who have reached the age of reason (7 years) are eligible to receive this sacrament and are prepared for it along with their preparation for First Communion. The current practice requires children to receive this sacrament prior to receiving First Communion.
The Sacrament of Confession is celebrated at 3:15 on Saturday and by appointment. Please contact Father Marcel Okwara at the church office (612-529-7779) to schedule. It is also celebrated in a communal setting during the seasons of Advent and Lent.
