Anointing of the Sick

The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick

Healing was a large part of Jesus’ ministry. He healed many in single gatherings (Lk. 4:40), the man with leprosy (Mk. 1:41), a woman with bleeding (Mk. 5: 34), and he also raised the dead and cast out demons. Jesus also called on his disciples to heal the sick, raise the dead, and cast out demons (Matt. 10:8). Healing reveals God’s love for humanity and bears witness to God’s authority over all manner of illness and maladies.

Holy Oils that are used to anoint the sick represent the presence of God’s love and mercy and the power of the Holy Spirit. Special prayers are part of the sacrament.

Those anticipating surgery are encouraged to celebrate this sacrament prior to entering the hospital. If you would like to speak with someone regarding the process or to make arrangements please contact the Parish office at 612-529-7779.

We celebrate Anointing in a communal fashion at Easter and Christmas.  Watch the parish bulletin for details.
